Experiences of older adults with kidney failure and their family members related to the transplant evaluation process
Investigator
What is the study?
Transplantation can be a valuable treatment option for older adults with kidney failure. However, to determine whether they are candidates for transplant, patients must first complete a physical and psychosocial evaluation process. This evaluation process may be especially burdensome and prolonged for older adults and those with more complex health conditions, and many will not ultimately receive a kidney. This study is a qualitative analysis of interviews with adults over age 65 and their family members about their experience in the kidney transplant evaluation process.
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE STUDY?
We aim to understand better the perspectives and experiences of older adults and their family members regarding the kidney transplant evaluation. We hope to identify ways to improve the process to better support patients and families.
