“KPMP in Type 1 Diabetes: A UW Medicine Collaboration”

Project: Over 1.4 million Americans live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a number projected to reach 2 million by 2030, with approximately one-third developing chronic kidney disease that significantly increases their risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. The University of Washington KPMP T1D Recruitment Site will leverage its established infrastructure and expertise to recruit and characterize T1D patients while obtaining high-quality kidney tissue samples. This work will advance our understanding of kidney disease mechanisms while maintaining rigorous ethical standards and patient safety, ultimately enabling the development of more targeted therapies.
