PBKD Study Section Chair

Ian de Boer, MD

Ian de Boer, MD, MS, is serving as the new Chair of the Pathobiology of Kidney Disease (PBKD) study section from 2025 to 2027. Dr. de Boer served as a standing member of PBKD from 2022 to 2025, and additionally served as a standing member of the Kidney, Nutrition, Obesity and Diabetes study (KNOD) study section.

Study sections are the primary peer-review mechanism for determining which research studies receive federal government funding.

The PBKD study section reviews grant applications that involve renal tubular and glomerular cell pathophysiology and translational/clinical studies of kidney diseases, including investigations of pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic kidney disorders, as well as the consequences of kidney disease and failure.

For further information about the PBKD study section, see the NIH Center for Scientific Review.
